AI vs Interior design
I do not think AI will replace interior designers.
If that were true, Pinterest, Instagram, and design magazines would have done it years ago, and they haven’t. Inspiration has always been accessible. What people hire designers for is something far deeper.
Residential design is incredibly personal. It’s not just about choosing colours or sourcing furniture; it’s about understanding how someone lives, what makes them feel comfortable, inspired, calm, or at home. Good design is built on relationships, trust, intuition, and psychology as much as aesthetics.
Lately, I keep hearing designers say that in the future we’ll need to focus more on the implementation of design rather than the design process itself. But to me, the thinking, creativity, and collaboration behind a design is the value. That human exchange is what creates meaningful spaces.
AI can be a useful tool. So can Pinterest. So can magazines. But they are tools- not substitutes for human creativity, experience, and connection.
There will always be mass-produced, low-cost design solutions available, and there’s a place for that. But the people seeking a thoughtful, tailored home experience were never looking for a generic solution in the first place.
And honestly, I’d hate to see the most fun creative process itself - handed over to a machine.
